Kayaking

A water sport where a person sits in a kayak, and propels it using a double-bladed paddle. Depending on the discipline the boats can be very maneuverable (river/play/canoe polo to very fast in a straight line (sprint/touring/sea kayaking).  A kayak er is lower to the water than a canoer and the boats are generally more responsive. The paddler sits facing forward with legs extended in front, moving the paddle alternately on each side to navigate through water. Kayaking can be done on rivers, lakes, seas, or oceans, and it ranges from calm recreational paddling to challenging whitewater rapids to competetive disciplines.
